this was a productive year in some ways - i made a lot of pages and did a lot of projects. i didn't, however, come anywhere near meeting the goals i set last year. part of that was simply lack of time - between work and credit classes... part of it, though, was my lack of focus - i start one thing, get side-tracked by something else, and never get back to what i started...
these were my goals for 2012...
twelve new habits for twenty-twelve
daily:1. take a photo - these photos will ultimately end up being a part of my plife, but the point is to get into the habit of capturing the mundane, the everyday - the things that we all so often overlook and take for granted
i altered this one a bit - i took six to eight pictures a week, instead of one picture a day
2. write - this isn't so much a matter of creating a new habit, but of restructuring an old one - this year, i've been writing every week. next year, i want to make time to write every day - no excuses.
this was easy. i've been writing since 2003.
3. art journal - even if it's only for 20-30 minutes, this is an exercise more in discipline than anything else. i love art journaling, but it's something that seems to take a backseat to everything else.
i did alot of art journaling this year, but no where near 20-30 minutes a day (you can click on the art journaling link on the right sidebar). mostly, i art journaled on sundays. although i did create an art journaling challenge on two peas, so that guarantees atleast one page a week.
4. scrapbook - i rarely scrapbook anymore. next year, i plan to use prompts and challenges to churn out more pages. some of the ones i'm considering? creative therapy/the effer dares. other suggestions are welcome. again, even if it's only 20-30 minutes a day.
again, i scrapbooked quite a bit compared to the year before, but no where near 20-30 minutes a day (you can click on the scrapbooking link on the right sidebar).
i almost think it'd be easier to "batch" these - instead of committing to 20-30 minutes a day of both art journaling and scrapbooking, commit to 2-3 hours a week of each. that seems to make more sense with my hectic schedule.
weekly:
5. plife - i'm still up in the air as to exactly what format i want to use - i'm still torn between the "standard ali edwards-style" and the more "art journal - a la karen grunberg's weeklong art journal-style." i just know that i want an everyday album at the end of the year.
all the pictures are taken and organized. all the journaling is, ofcourse, done. putting together the actual album? not even started yet... i'm hoping to work on it next year, while i actually make it a priority to keep up in 2013. one of the things i'm going to do to make it easier? i was gifted a turquoise plife core kit, bought a clementine core kit, and am very patiently waiting for a seafoam core kit. i intend to use primarily clementine for 2012 and seafoam for 2013 and add in a little turquoise here and there...
6. read a book - as far as i'm concerned, you can't be a great writer, if you never read anything that's been written by a great writer. my goal is to eventually be published, so... it seems only natural to me that i spend time reading those who have been published.
i read a number of books and more articles than i can count... it was a long year of researching - we'll leave it at that. next year, i'm hoping to get back to reading for pleasure and not out of necessity.
7. wellness charts - a.k.a. my "3 meals, 3 miles" program - the idea was to eat 3 healthy meals each day, and run/walk 3 miles - the ultimate fitness program. lol... i wanted to document this in a weekly "chart" and, maybe, add it to my move more, eat well album.
well, i managed this through january. after that, i kind of gave up on it... i have a really hard time consistently tracking things like this - better luck next year!
monthly:
8. mixed media/altered art project - this is simply a matter of using my stash - i have so many printer's trays and blank canvas lying around in my studio - time to start putting them to good use.
i made a number of mixed media/altered art projects this year (you can click on the mixed media link on the right sidebar) - off the top of my head, my favorites are the journal in a jar, life ain't always beautiful and i can't do this but i'm doing it anyway, and the 7 gypsies printer's tray from the day we got married.
9. a mini-album - doesn't matter what... doesn't matter how complex, or how simple... again, simply a matter of using my stash because mini-albums (as much as i hate them) are another thing that i have so many of.
this never happened - mini albums just aren't my thing.
10. take a class - i definitely want to be careful that i'm not taking classes simply for the sake of taking classes, so... this is going to be something i'm going to have to be careful about, but overall, i've loved taking so many classes this year.
i took several classes this year - twelve, the art of wild abandonment, your living canvas, brave girl art school, 31 things, dimensional details, the curious scrapbooker's field guide - i think that's it...
11. move more, eat well - i signed up for move more, eat well w/ cathy z - i think this will work nicely w/ my "3 meals, 3 miles" program. i'd like to do my weekly "charts" right alongside this class, so...
12. one little word - i signed up for ali edwards' class this year and didn't make it past january. i want to try again next year. i'm not exactly sure how this'll work, but one way or another, i'm going to make it work.
i signed up for both of these classes and never touched either one of them. i promised myself i wouldn't sign up for either of these in 2013 until the 2012 ones were completely finished...
so, there you have it - my twelve new habits for twenty-twelve...
goodbye 2012. hello 2013.
a few weeks ago, i posted three lists - i intended to use them to create goals for 2013.
these were my three lists for 2013.
what do i want to learn?
1. start running
2. work with a nutritionist
3. focus/balance
4. develop my own personal style in my art
what do i want to do more of?
1. reading
2. writing
3. art journaling
4. scrapbooking
what fulfills me (or honors a value i have)?
1. promote awareness
2. acceptance
3. bravery
4. happiness - my version of "the happiness project"
so, how exactly am i going to take these three lists, along with what i've learned about myself and my productivity in the last year, and make a tangible set of goals for 2013?
like this...
what do i want to learn?
2. work with a nutritionist
1. spend some time in january putting together a personal wellness program - maybe, make an appt. w/ a trainer and/or nutritionist.
2. my olw for 2012 was focus and my olw for 2013 is balance - spend some time with both - do a project each month with each of these words.
what do i want to do more of?
2. writing
3. continue writing everyday and read atleast one book a month.
4. scrapbooking
4. the only way to develop my own person style in my art is to consistently scrapbook and art journal - regardless of how busy i get, make time for studio sunday. spend atleast a few hours a week scrapbooking and art journaling.
what fulfills me (or honors a value i have)?
1. promote awareness
2. acceptance
3. bravery
4. happiness - my version of "the happiness project"
so, here's the final list...
1. spend some time in january putting together a personal wellness program - maybe, make an appt. w/ a trainer and/or nutritionist.
2. my olw for 2012 was focus and my olw for 2013 is balance - spend some time with both - do a project each month with each of these words.
3. continue writing everyday and read atleast one book a month.
4. the only way to develop my own person style in my art is to consistently scrapbook and art journal - regardless of how busy i get, make time for studio sunday. spend atleast a few hours a week scrapbooking and art journaling.
here's to a productive 2013!
